Speculation and rumor are running wild in the days leading up to E3 2013, most of which is focused on hardware--the upcoming Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 next-generation video game consoles. That said, there's still plenty of opportunity to talk about what matters most at the world's largest video game showcase--software.

The NSA's PRISM: What They're Saying
The news cycle is being dominated by a story from The Washington Post, which revealed the existence of PRISM, a program within the National Security Agency (NSA) that reportedly allows the government to tap into the servers of major Internet firms like Microsoft, Facebook, Google, and Apple. The nine firms in question quickly denied providing the NSA with access to their networks, with several saying they'd never even heard of PRISM. But critics are saying a lot more.

Microsoft Xbox One: No Internet? Big Problem
Since Microsoft's Xbox One announcement, hardcore gamers have been nervous about the system's limiting features thanks to Microsoft's mixed messages about how the console will function. Putting aside the mechanics of game trading and a Big Brother-esque Kinect sensor, Microsoft has confirmed one important detail about the Xbox One: it will have to connect to the Internet every 24 hours to play games.
