Internet Taxation Coming Soon to a Link Near You
The title of this piece is a bit of a misnomer since it isn't the Internet that is getting taxed, but things that are bought over the Internet. For that matter, it turns out that consumers are already required to pay local sales taxes for Internet purchases, but none of us do. Legislation moving through Congress would force online retailers to collect these duties. It is a complicated issue that has conservative Republicans and online giants like Amazon arguing in favor of a more effective tax collection. Meanwhile small online retailers, AOL, Facebook, and others are trying to keep things as they are now. PCMag's Mitchell Hall sorts out the players.

Lose Weight, Not Your Tracker, With Fitbit Flex
The Fitbit Flex addresses my biggest problem with the company's previous activity trackers--it will be harder to lose. I have lost a Fitbit Ultra and a Fitbit One--a net loss of about $200. This week I placed an order for the Fitbit Flex, a wristband that does pretty much the same thing but will make fewer trips through the laundry. Although I like the idea of Jawbone's Up platform a lot, I already have a Fitbit Aria scale so it makes sense for me to stay with Fitbit. Judging from Jill Duffy's four-star review, it is not a bad call.

Quiz: Test Your Security IQ

Slacker Radio Redesign Attracts in 6M New Users
When I first saw Slacker's redesign I was a little perplexed. It looks nothing like the old service. In fact it almost looks like a Pandora clone. Icons are bigger but there is less information on the screen. As a long-time Slacker subscriber, I was disappointed. But I soon realized the new design is optimized for phone and tablet users, not necessarily for Web browsers. The interface has grown on me, as new interfaces usually do. And with 6M new users, the revamp was clearly the right call.
