How To Optimize Computer Performance | After months and years of daily use, your computer can start to get the feel of a broken down old racehorse. Before you take it out to pasture or somehow attempt to make glue out of it, take note of these tips on how to optimize computer performance.
When computers start slow or take a long time to surf web content, they may need a quick refresh. Like an MTV reality show apartment, computers need to be cleaned often. The first step is to make sure a virus hasn't caused the lagging and performance issues in your operating system. Update your virus scanner with a top program from Avast or Avira and do a quick scan. After the scan is complete, restart the computer and make notes if the performance has improved. If this doesn't solve the problem, we've only just begun.
When looking for ways on how to optimize computer performance, sometimes a simple cleansing of the registry can free up enough space to run smoother. A registry cleaner will delete unused items from your computer including broken links, unused icons, shortcuts, cookies, and other fragments of data that inhabit your computer when running programs and surfing the web. Of course there are tools that do more than just scan your registry. One such well known and well respected optimization program is PC Matic. You can get a free scan and give it a try before you buy. Check out PcMatic If your computer is very slow on startup, it could be because a program you installed thinks it's more important than it actually is. During installation, some programs will add themselves to begin on startup without you even knowing it.
To eliminate that Ms.Pacman game that never lets you get any work done: 1. Go to the Start button at the bottom of the screen. 2. Choose programs from the list. 3. Choose Run for Windows Xp or type in the search box for Windows Vista and Seven. 4. Type msconfig.exe. 5. Underneath the startup tab you will probably notice a plethora of checkmarks. 6. Uncheck the ones you are sure you don't need as a process of how to optimize computer performance.
Do not disable programs that you are not sure of. For example I have an annoying HP printer updater that starts every time I start the computer. Therefore I would look for anything that looked like "HP" or "update" or "Printer". At least two of these keywords would be fine. Then I know I am disabling the right startup program.
The problem with this is that I still might disable the wrong startup program, therefore whenever you do something like this take note of it... Then if you have a problem you can always look and see what changes you have done to cause it.

Ways to Save Passwords
There seems to be two types of personalities when it comes to selecting passwords for web sites or computer programs. Type 1 is Mr. Consistent who uses his dogs name for every single password in his arsenal. If somebody were ever to crack his code they'd instantly have access to his bank account, email, gaming character, and fantasy football team. The second type of password picker is the person that gets caught up in the moment. This user has the TV on in the background while surfing the web and a funny joke happened to go over the air as they select their password. There's no way they'll forget that joke years from now will they? What was the joke again? Luckily for the second guy, there's software available now that will save all your passwords in one convenient package. For the first guy, if you forget your dog's name you probably got some more issues than we can divulge into.
You can choose to store all your passwords on a post-it note stuck to your computer or you can download the safer version known as the password wallet. There are other programs such as Roboform for the PC and 1passwd for a Mac. These innovative programs store passwords and contact information securely. When you enter a site that needs a password or your name and contact information, the computers will automatically fill in the data with your stored settings. These programs not only provide secure and convenient ways to store passwords, they will save you from waking up in the middle of the night when you finally remember that joke.
What are Cookies?
Sometimes your company IT department can save your job, and other times they cause you to go hungry. If you've ever had a problem loading a website or accessing forms on a page, your system technician might have recommended clearing out your cookies and trying again. Sure, your wife might not be the best cook in the world but at least she was trying. You throw out her chocolaty morsels and try again to no avail. Not only is access to your web page still not possible, your IT technician is going to call you the cookie monster for the rest of your employment tenure. You should have just broken down and asked: "What are cookies?"
Cookies are small pieces of data delivered by websites for a variety of different uses. Cookies also work to tell your computer that this particular site you are visiting is safe and trusted. When visiting a web page that requires a password, the site can search for a previous stored cookie and remember your password information. It is important that you log out each time if using a shared computer because of this fact. Cookies can be cleared via the Internet options toolbar in your web browser. When you clear cookies, you will have to remember all your user names and passwords and contrary to popular belief, it doesn't clean out your browsing history.
Here's how you can see what cookies are on your computer.
